Changes

So much for active blogging.

To elaborate, I just haven’t had the enthusiasm or drive to blog about stuff, and like so many times before, I haven’t posted anything because of this. I’m hoping it will change, but… meh, I wouldn’t hold my breath. After all, this blog is mostly for myself, and I don’t expect anyone to actually read it unless there’s something concrete of interest here. On a completely uninteresting and unrelated note, I have some news about my school/work situation.

My Bachelor’s degree was originally set to complete in the summer of 2013, but that’s about to change slightly. I’ve been admitted into an Industrial Bachelor program, which is a joint program between my school NITH and an IT consulting firm, namely Avanade. This adds another two semesters to my studies, which brings the total semester count up to eight, and sets the completion date back to sometime in the summer of 2014. However, three of the remaining semesters will be spent working as an operative IT consultant instead of attending ordinary lectures. This is a great opportunity for me, as I get real working experience and expand my network during my studies. I’ll complete my studies with 1,5 years of practical working experience, which will allow me to enter an operative job position immediately.

It does mean I’ll need to resign from my current position at Get AS. It’s sad because my working environment there has been fantastic and my colleagues are great, but this choice will ultimately be more relevant to my studies and my later career, so it’s a necessary step to take. And I do have to admit that I am looking forward to having just one major activity to spend my time on. Right now, I have a part-time job alongside full-time studies. The long days and the mental restructuring between studies/work can be quite exhausting, with school days from 9 to 4 and then work from 5 to 10. It doesn’t leave much time for social interaction if you also need to eat well and get enough rest and sleep. It also ruins any consistency I might have in a week – some evenings I work, some evenings I don’t, and these change from week to week which makes it much harder to plan recurring activities such as football practice.

Well, that’s my thoughts for now. Maybe I’ll post some code soon, too, which was my original intention!
